General Information:
Colloidal silicon dioxide serves as an excellent anti-caking agent. Its porous structure enables it to absorb moisture, preventing clumping and agglomeration of powdered substances, which is particularly important for products stored in humid conditions. Colloidal Silicon Dioxide, recognized by its various pharmacopoeia grades including IP (Indian Pharmacopoeia), BP (British Pharmacopoeia), and USP (United States Pharmacopeia), is a vital and multifunctional pharmaceutical excipient. In the pharmaceutical industry, silicon dioxide (also known as colloidal silicon dioxide) has many uses in tablet-making: some include as an anticaking agent, adsorbent, disintegrant, or glidant to allow powder to flow freely when tablets are processed. These compounds appear to be biologically inert.

Advantage & Disadvantage:
When taken by mouth: As long as silicon is consumed in food amounts, it is likely to be safe. There is insufficient information to determine if silicon is safe when used as medicine.
