Magnesium trisilicate is an inorganic compound that is used as an antacid in the treatment of peptic ulcers. It is also used as antioxidant, decolorizing agent and industrial odor absorbent. Magnesium Trisilicate has a variable composition corresponding approximately to Mg2Si3O8, xH2O. The trisilicate is rarely given alone and is usually combined with other antacids such as aluminum hydroxide or sodium bicarbonate.

Application & Use:
Used as Antacid in Antacid Formulations. Magnesium Trisilicate is used as tableting agent or coating agent for various drugs. It is used as raw material for Antacid formulations along with Light Magnesium Carbonate as a combination. Also useful Antioxidant, Decolorizing Agent and industrial odor absorbent.
Advantage & Disadvantage:
Neutralizes or increases gastric pH; reduces phosphates in urine, preventing formation of phosphate urinary stones; reduces serum phosphate levels; decreases fluidity of stools. May be harmful if inhaled. May cause respiratory tract irritation.
